PetaPixel picked up on a compilation of quotes put together by photographer Tammy Lamoureux and originally posted on the Curated Quotes website. Artists of any form need new and continuous inspiration to draw out their best work. The Curated Quotes website offers that in heaps and apart from inspiring waves of optimism it shows how a good quote of a few words can make the strongest of impressions. After seeing PetaPixels post a visit to the Curated Quotes website became – at least for a short time – a soul searching session, before the need to get back to work put an end to this bout of aimless, mental, existential wandering.
If you are looking to remind yourself about the beauty of the camera, or why photography is a pursuit worthy of the slog then Lamoureux has gathered together 70 rousing quotes which will make a good starting point in raising your spirits. Apart from the title of this post, attributed to Anonymous, several other quotes caught my eye:
The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do. Andy Warhol
If the photographer is interested in the people in front of his lens, and if he is compassionate, it’s already a lot. The instrument is not the camera but the photographer. Eve Arnold
Taking pictures is like tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies. Diane Arbu
All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth. Richard Avedon
The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera. Dorothea Lange
The picture that you took with your camera is the imagination you want o create with reality. Scott Lorenzo
Its always reassuring to know that other people feel the same way you do, but its even better when they express something you didn’t know you felt until they said it in the perfect way. Looking at my list here or the longer version put together by Lamoureux do you agree with them? What would your quote be?
