In a sleep-worthy bit of news, Ricoh’s purchase of Pentax was announced last week. Pentax, owned by Hoya, will become part of Ricoh later this year. The deal was worth an estimated $124 million.
Will Pentax thrive as it joins Ricoh’s copier and digital imaging empire? It didn’t fare well with Hoya, being sold five years after the 2005 merger between the two companies. Pentax did announce the world’s smallest and lightest digital camera last week: The Pentax Q. Perhaps Pentax has more up it’s sleeve.
