Rumors: Nikon EVIL March 2011!

January 6, 2011

One of the many ‘fresh’ rumors that have been floating around in the recent days is that of the imminent release of a Nikon EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens or Mirrorless) camera in March 2011 (posted 2 Jan 2011). This posting  was based off an article published by DSLR Magazine

which reports not only the projected release date, but provides us with some very interesting information. Apparently, this Nikon EVIL will be “more professional” than the offerings of Olympus, Panasonic, Sony and Samsung.

What should we expect? With the plethora of rumors that have been waved about this camera it is hard to know what to expect. However NikonRumors has provided us with a list of filed patents for ideas that could emerge with this camera.

Here is a list of patents filed by Nikon that could be implemented in their mirrorless interchangeable lens camera:

  • lenses that can be zoomed both electronically and manually
  • a rotating lens mount
  • an interchangeable sensor
  • a backlit sensor
  • a curved sensor
  • a pop up flash that can be bounced
  • a large electronic viewfinder with a mirror
