We get a lot of questions regarding the Phottix Odin, Atlas II, Strato II Multi and Strato and how they work together. It’s easy to understand.
The triggers are backwards compatible – meaning the newest triggers systems will work with older receivers – this does not hold true the other way. Older triggers will not work with newer receivers. The digital coding in the newer triggers is slightly different – they can work with older models but not the other way around. Let’s take a quick look:
Phottix Odin TTL Trigger for Canon
– Will trigger Phottix Odin, Phottix Atlas II, Phottix Strato II Multi and Phottix Strato Receivers
– Phottix Strato II Multi and Phottix Strato transmitters will not trigger Phottix Odin receivers
– Phottix Atlas II triggers in transmit mode will not trigger Phottix Odin receivers
Phottix Strato II Multi
– Will trigger Phottix Strato II Multi and Phottix Strato Receivers, and Phottix Atlas II triggers in receiver mode
– Phottix Strato II Multi transmitters will not trigger Phottix Odin receivers
Phottix Strato
– Will trigger Phottix Strato Receivers and Phottix tlas II triggers in receiver mode
– Phottix Strato transmitters will not trigger Phottix Odin or Phottix Strato II Multi receivers
Phottix Atlas II
– Will trigger Phottix Atlas II triggers in receiver mode or Phottix Strato receivers
– Will not trigger Phottix Odin or Strato II receivers or first generation Phottix Atlas triggers
Understand? Easy as pie.
Nikon? Canon? Sony?
Another question: Will a Strato or Strato II Multi Transmitter for Canon trigger a Strato or Strato II Multi receiver for Nikon/Sony ?
Answer: Yes. The Canon/Nikon/Sony designation refers only to the hot shoe on each receiver and possible functions (wake-up) related to that hot shoe. You can use a Strato II Multi for Canon transmitter and trigger Nikon or Sony flashes on Strato receivers for those units – but you will lose any flash wake-up functions as (in most cases) that is a dedicated camera system function.
Any questions? Sound off in the comments.
Updated: January 15, 2013 with Atlas II compatibility data.
Yes, the Odin will trigger the Strato II, but you still have to change the flash power on the Stratto II manually.
Yes, power adjustment is an Odin only function.
Is there a combination where I could use an Odin transmitter to trigger an Alien Bees strobe either through Odin, Stratos or some other receiver?
Hello Richard, all of these triggers should work wtih AB strobes.
If I use Odin trigger with Alien Bees, can I use the high-speed sync?
Will the Strato reciever support has (high speed sync) when used in conjunction with the Odin transmitter
Hello Simon. No, HSS is a Odin only function.
When using the Strato 11 Multi 5 in 1, as a wireless shutter release.(With off camera flash) Do I need 2 transmitters? The flash is triggered but does not register in exposure.
Hello Trevor. Yes, you would need two transmitters set to different channels. One in hand for the shutter release, another on the camera hot shoe.
Thanks a million, that info is very much appreciated.
When will Odins be available for Nikons? If I get the Strato II set up now, transmitter and a couple of recievers and get the Odin transmitter later when available, will they work together with strato recievers. and if so, will high speed sync work? Thanks
@John: the Nikon version of the Odins are coming soon.
The Odin transmitter cannot trigger Strato / Strato II receivers in HSS mode. You only get HSS when using Odin receivers.
I have another question. Can I use the Odin transmitter to trigger 2 odin receivers on flashes and a Stratos receiver as a wireless remote on a second camera? So I would fire both flashes and a second camera at the same time.
Thanks.
@Richard: yes you can do that.
However, the timing of the flashes is unlikely to be synchronised with the remotely triggered camera.
Are the Strato 11 Multi 5 in 1 or 4 in 1 compatible with any of the Yongnuo Flash Units?
Using an Odin transmitter to trigger a stratto 2 receiver, do i get TTL and High Speed Sync?
thank you
JOHN
@John: Nope, you won’t get TTL or HSS when using Strato / Strato 2 receivers, as the Stratos do not support that functionality.
You can only get TTL / HSS when using Odin receivers.
Can I use a Stratos II Multi 5 in 1 for trigger control, and the Odin for flash control at the same time? If so what would the setup be?
Thanks,
@Greg: Yes, you can.
You would need to have a Strato II receiver connected to the camera’s shutter release socket, then an Odin transmitter on the camera’s hotshoe, with one or more Odin receivers connected to your flashes.
The Odins will need to be configured on a different channel than the Stratos, and hitting the trigger button on the Strato transmitter should then trigger the camera’s shutter release, and the camera will trigger the Odin transmitter, which will trigger the Odin receiver(s).
Is the “Groups” function on the Odin the same on the Strato II? So if I use Odin transmitter with both Odin & Strato II receivers, I’ll be able to set each receiver to a different group (A, B & C) and do any combination from the Odin transmitter?
Thanks
Any idea how long it will be until you develop a firmware upgrade for the 1DX? Or is that going to be a camera which is unsupported?
Thank you for a product which works nicely with my other camera bodies, but I need it to work with all of them.
Thank you.
@Stick: Phottix have indicated they are still working on 1Dx compatibility, and hope to address it in a future firmware update for the Odin.
It has been five months and still nothing.
So two or more cameras triggering 1 or more flashes in same group, suppose I’ll need 2x Odin transmitter? On the same channel?
@KC: That’s correct. If you want to have two cameras triggering the same set of flashes, you’ll need an Odin TCU on each camera.
I have Canon 5D3 with 600EX-RT and ST-E3.
In Radio mode, I want to trigger a Manual Elinchrom flash along with 600EX-RT.
If I place Strato-II in Camera Hotshoe and ST-E3 over it, and attach Strato receiver to elinchrom, will this setup work?

I have an Odin transmitter and 3 Odin receivers that I currently use with a Canon body. I’m looking at getting a Sony Nex 6/7 soon and would like to use the Odins with both cameras. If I get an Odin transmitter for Sony, do I also need to buy Sony Odin receivers or can I use my existing Canon ones for both bodies?
Hello, I have a set of your fine Strato II’s. Question: will the Canon ST-E3-RT fire the Strato II receivers?
Thanks.
Is the Strato II compatible with the Canon 600 EX-RT? Thanks.
Yes it is!
Can I control the flash power output on a Atlas II or Strato II receiver from Odin transmitter?
No, that is not possible. The Odin TCU will only adjust power on Odin receivers.
Do you have a comprehensive list of compatible Canon flashes for Odin?
I’m pretty sure that most of the Canon EX series flashes are compatible, but what about the 3rd party brands that compatible with Canon like: Nissin, Sigma, Yongnuo etc?
Also do you have any more information about the upcoming Phottix Mitros flash?
When’s the exact release date? How much is the price? Does it have a built-in Odin receiver?
@Bryan: Phottix have previously said that the Odin has been designed and optimised for use with genuine Canon flashes using the ETTL II system, and issues with third-party flashes will not be supported.
However, a Dutch photographer has been collecting details of third-party flash compatibility with the Odin here: http://members.casema.nl/mmuetstege/Odin.html
