Canon lens image stabilization is becoming fairly standard, even on some kit lens offerings. IS (VR for you Nikonians) allows shooters to use shutter speeds two to three (or four) stops slower with getting blurry images from shaky hands. Despite what a former colleague tried to vehemently explain to me: No, IS will not stop the motion blur from people moving in your images.
