I think everyone has collected trading cards at one point or another. Baseball cards, Pokemon – you name it – cards are popular. Now photographers have set of cards to collect. Photo Trade Secrets has developed several sets of useful trading cards, and no, they don’t come with bubblegum.
PTS has developed and released two set of cards aimed at photographers. Want to know how Chase Jarvis lit that shot? How can you set up cool strobist images? There easy-to-carry cards are for you. Pocketable inspiration.
Get inside Chase Jarvis’ head and see his impressive collection of portraits he crafted for national ad campaigns, personal fine art portfolio work, and more. See how super-cool strobist shot were put together. Edited by Nice Photography Magazine’s Zeke Kamm the sets are printed on heavy card stock with UV coatings.
The front of each card displays a photo, the backside a lighting diagram and description. I was leary of “cards” instead of a more traditional book, but the cards have been a great addition to my camera bag. They are small and easy to carry. The Strobist Favorites Volume 1 set has had a some in my gear bag for two years and stood up well to the tests of time.
I’ve reviewed both the Chase Jarvis and Strobist Volume 1 sets and highly recommend they could be a great stocking stuffer for the photographer on your Christmas list. Excellent images and information that help get the creative juices flowing.
Photo Trade Secrets is hard a work on a series of books – stay tuned for review of the Strobist Experts Lighting Techniques book to be published here soon.
