Phottix big live view displays and flash trigger at PMA 2010

Team Phottix unveiled three other new products during PMA 2010 in Anaheim, California.

The new Phottix Strato is a 2.4 GHz wireless flash trigger for speedlight-type flashes and studio strobes. What makes the Phottix Strato different is a hot shoe attachment on the transmitter. Photographers can mount a flash on the transmitter (on camera) and use TTL flash functions and auto-focus assist lights. The transmitter will also trigger a remote flash using a Strato receiver (in manual mode).

Based on suggestions from wedding photographers, Phottix developed the Strato to give shooters both the freedom of TTL and the ability to trigger fill flashes. The Phottix Strato will be ready in April 2010. Final specifications and sales information will be released when available.

The Phottix Hero and Phottix Hector Live View Remotes have won innovation awards for their functionally and uses. Adding to this celebrated product line Phottix will be releasing the Hector 9HD and the Hero 7.

Canon announces 550D Rebel T2i

Canon announced the newest addition to the Rebel line yesterday: The Canon 550D, aka, the Rebel T2i

The newest DLSR offers photographers a 18 megapixel APS-C sensor and Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor. The new rebel will also record HD video.

Sharing a feature with its big brother the Canon 7D, the Canon 550D uses the iFCL metering system. New is the ability for users to set a top limit for auto ISO – a new way to control noise in images.

The 550D continues with the DLSR trend of HD video capabilities. The 550D shoots video at full 1920x1080p HD resolution, and photographers can select frame rates from 30, 25 and 24fps. 720p video at 60 and 50fps is also available on the new Canon DSLR. The EOS 550D has a 3.5mm microphone jack for using an external mike when shooting video.

The display on the new 550D is a 3-inch 3:2 Clear View LCD screen with resolution of 1,040k dots. Canon says 100% of captured images (with no borders) are visible on the LCD. The display has anti-reflective and water-repellent coatings, making it easier to view in bright conditions and from different angles.

Phottix Hero and Hector showcased at CES

The Phottix Hero and Hector LiveView Remotes were featured at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier in January. The wired and wireless LiveView DSLR Remotes were shown to more than 112,515 attendees as part of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) product showcase.

The Phottix Hero Wireless LiveView Remote and the Phottix Hector LiveView Remote won the Bronze Outstanding Innovation and Technology Products Award from the HKTDC during the Hong Kong Electronics Fair in October 2009. The HKTDC displayed the award-winning remotes at the CES.

The Phottix Hero Wireless LiveView Remote sends a video preview from a camera’s viewfinder to a remote unit, and displays it on a color LCD screen. A photographer can take photographs from the remote, up to 100 meters away. The Hero is perfect for aerial, wildlife, street and sports photography.
