Brief Bio:
My name is Kamil Bialous. I’m a professional commercial and editorial photographer from Toronto, Ontario. My work focuses primarily around outdoor adventure and lifestyle imagery, as well as travel and documentary photography services.

I enjoy surfing, travel, meeting new people, suffering a little bit, Bill Withers, navigating large ships into small ports, chopping wood, recreational plumbing, having a camera at my side, skiing, good snow, skiing on good snow, finding places that are hard to get to, trying to get to those places, learning languages and then thinking that I am good at them, creating new perspectives, working through problems, and people – curmudgeonly and not – but especially those who have passion.

I am based out of Toronto where I live with two cats, Abraham and Owl, and my fiancee.

How did you first get interested in photography?
My interests in photography didn’t begin until I was about 18 years old, and that is when I took a trip to Malawi, Zambia, and South Africa to volunteer for a summer at the end of high school. I really enjoyed photographing people the most, even though we did get a chance to go on a couple safaris. Upon my return I studied International Development which was quite heavily influenced by my trip. When my studies finished, I knew that I didn’t want a cubicle job, so while being heavily involved in the outdoors, rock climbing in particular, I started shooting it. That led to other adventures, with passionate people always being at the core of my images.

Nikon EVIL to be announced later this year?

The rumor mill has been buzzing the last few days about a Nikon EVIL camera. For those into acronyms: EVIL = Electronic Viewfinder, Interchangeable Lens.

An announcement from Nikon is rumored for August or September of 2010 – perhaps at the Photokina show in Germany. Nikon Rumors has posted a artist’s conception of the Nikon EVIL as well as illustrations from recent Nikon patent applications.

Four thirds cameras are “the thing” to watch in 2010. A Canon EVIL is in the works, and Sony is rumored to be working on something similar, a competitor for the Panasonic GH-1.

Enter the haters. Wired Magazine published an article on 5 Reasons to Ditch your DSLR.  Photographer Ken Rockwell has predicted:

The 2000s were the DSLR decade. Those days are over. DSLRs are about as relevant today as dial-up modems and SCSI-conected scanners. The 2010s are the decade DSLRs died.

That seems a little far-fetched. An oracle of Delphi Ken Rockwell is not.

Name: Cameron K. Fong

Country of residence: Australia

Brief Bio:
Born 1987 in Australia, met my first SLR when I was 7 or 8, got my first camera (35mm Kodak compact) when I was about 9, went on to learn to shoot SLR using Nikon FM2’s and Pentax K1000’s in high school. I started to own my SLR’s in 2007 when I bought my Nikon D40x (since sold) and have been shooting heavily ever since.

How did you first get interested in photography?
I first came into contact with SLR’s at a young age, and just knew from then onwards that photography would be something that I would pursue. I can’t draw or paint very well, so I borrow the camera to capture the things to see.

What do you like to shoot?
In many ways I will shoot almost anything, but I am most comfortable shooting landscape and macro.
