Now available: Firmware version 1.23 for the Phottix Odin TTL Trigger for Canon.
What does v1.23 offer:
Please note: This firmware update is meant primarily for the Canon 1Dx. Using firmware v1.23 with other bodies can lead to limited functions – see below. We do not recommend users of other camera bodies upgrade their firmware.
1. Improved compatibility with Canon 1Dx. Due to changes in Canon flash software and exposure issues inherent to the 1Dx and Canon flashes this is a work in progress. Exposure issues can be minimized by using the TTL Pref function (below).
2.Added TTL Pref. function – pressing and holding the “ZOOM” and “+” adjustment buttons (with TCU turned on) for about 2 seconds will move to TTL Pref. adjustments screen. Press the “ON/OFF” power button to exit. TTL Pref allows you to set an overall EV adjustment for the Phottix Odin system, independent of TCU adjustments. If you set TTL Pref at +2 EV all TTL photos taken with the Odin will the +2 EV. Adjustments made in TTL mode on the TTL/Mixed Screen will be added or subtracted from the TTL Pref Setting. Example: TTL Pref is set to +2. TTL/Mixed Screen adjustment set to -1 EV. Overall adjustment: +2 – 1 = +1 EV.
3. Added firmware version display function – pressing and holding the “SEL” and “+” adjustment buttons (with TCU turned on) for about 2 seconds will display the firmware version. Press any button to exit.
4. Added function: Fast adjust power levels in M mode and EV amounts in TTL mode by pressing and holding the “+” or “-” adjustment buttons (with TCU turned on).
5. Added power-saving function for the receiver – the receiver will stay in idle for about 65 hours. (Previously the receiver will stay in idle mode for approximately 36 hours).6. No Second Curtain Sync (SCS) Functions with 1DX, 6D, 5D III, 650D and EOS M bodies. Canon’s own wireless system does not offer SCS functions. Using firmware v1.20 will allow for SCS functions, but the above mentioned points won’t work.
We will continue to revise the Odin firmware to improve compatibility with the 1Dx and other cameras. There is a full-time team involved in testing and revising the Odin as new cameras and flashes are released.

Currently I just have a 5DMK2, so from what I can see above, if I were to upgrade I would lose 2nd curtain support and my receivers would stay on for 65hrs (instead of 36hrs) before going to idle.
I really can’t see why those features are needed at all, if anything it would be better to adjust the idle timeout to be 8hrs or less to avoid batteries going flat when the receivers are accidentially left on after use.
I’d prefer Phottix to maintain a separate branch of firmware updates for 1Dx than dumb down existing functionality for users having other camera models. Advising them to stay on old firmware is really saying there is no futher ongoing support for the other cameras.
Hello Steve:
Thanks for your comment. I think you misunderstood – the power saving function is an improvement over previous versions – allowing for longer battery life if the receivers are left on.
Future firmware updates will be done exactly as you suggested, so as to retain maximum compatibility where possible, with the 1Dx being a special case. Engineers are hard at work on a new firmware version to add these new features and retain second curtain sync functions for the majority of camera bodies.
Hello Steve,
I don’t understand the same thing as you and and I would like Phottix editor to make it clearer : the sixth point of the firmware is “No Second Curtain Sync (SCS) Functions with 1DX, 6D, 5D III, 650D and EOS M bodies.”, so I understand that other bodies still benefit from SCS with the new firmware (I have got a 5D II too).
Thanks for the clarification.
For now I’ll hold off applying any further firmware upgrades until advised it contains full feature support for the 5DMK2.
Hello Steve,
I have just upgraded to 1.23 and SCS still works with Eos 5D MarkII and Eos 600D (and 550ex, 430ex, YN560, YN460II ), it also works with a Strato II as receiver (and the same speedlights).
I have not tested ttl accuracy but manual power and zoom adjustments works as usual.
The 4th added function is handy for faster adjustments.
Thanks Oliver for passing on this info and confirmation that at least the manual features seem to be working well. I’m not really in a hurry to upgrade at this stage. I think I’ll wait for a release that is officially supported for the 5dMk2. What I am really waiting for is external light meter support.
Is there an ongoing development for Canon 6D compatibility? there seems to be some misfires when using this which never happened on the 500D before. im not sure if other triggers from my friends or people that are not using ODIN is causing this, on a full charge Canon Flash most of the time on TTL mode i can only fire the flash once. Later in the day i switched to Manual mode at 1/8 flash output , still not letting me to flash more than once.
Hello Ryan,
Thanks for that input. That’s not something we have seen. I will pass to our testing dept. for clarification.
Thanks appreciate it.
Is this applicable to the Canon 5D M3?
Hello Kent,
We recommend this firmware only be used with the 1Dx.
The SCS function does not need to be lost. Canon’s wireless flash functionality may not have it, but I’m sure their wired flash functionality has not downgraded that SCS functionality, which means neither does any 3rd party system.
I would think it’s more important to fix the few issues that people have been complaining about since the beginning, such as test flash, which currently triggers the flash setup at a lower power output, making the test pretty useless for measuring light, or the pre-flash, which prevents measuring light altogether….
Hello Kryn:
Thanks for your comment. We continue to work on the SCS issue. We are also working on the light meter issue. More news as it is available.
As long as this allows the 1Dx to hit higher shutter speeds with flash, everything else is secondary to me. Thanks for getting this update out.
I shoot with a 1D4, 7D and will be adding a 1DX. Will I be able to keep my odins compatible with all bodies? What should I do?
We are working on a solution to this. The 7D will work with the newest firmware but you will lose SCS functions.
