Are you confused trying to connect your Phottix Hector LiveView Remote to your Canon 7D, 500D (T1i), or 550D (T2i)? Fear not, it’s easy.
The newest Canon DSLRs do not have an AV port as is found on older Canon cameras (40D, 50D 5D Mark II). Instead, the USB port also functions as an AV port.
To connect your Phottix Hector you will need the USB to AV Cable included with your camera. You know the one: A USB connection on one end, and two (or three) male RCA AV jacks on the other.
Some easy instructions for connecting your Phottix Hector to you Canon 7D, 500D, or 550D:
- Turn off your camera.
- Plug the Canon USB to AV cable into the USB port on the camera body.
- Connect the yellow female RCA video plug from the Phottix C6R cable (for the Canon 500D or 550D) or the C8R cable (Canon 7D) to the yellow male RCA plug on the Canon USB to AV Cable.
- Connect the remote plug of the Phottix C6R or C8R to the camera’s remote port.
- Connect the Phottix C6R or C8R to the Phottix Hector.
- Turn on the camera and Phottix Hector
- Engage LiveView mode.
There you have it. Easy peasy. Remember – You need the Canon USB to AV cable to use your Phottix Hector with Canon 7D, 500D (T1i), or 550D (T2i).
