Making Light 2 by Piet Can den Eynde
Freelance photographer Piet Van den Eynde recently released his newest ebook, Making Light 2. It follows the earlier released Making Light.
The 77-page tome is for flash enthusiasts and teaches the advanced use of off-camera flashes. The ebook illustrates flash techniques: Working with multiple flashes, high speed sync, as well as triggering, flashes versus strobes, and lighting modifiers.
The strength of Making Light 2 is the 10 case studies in the book. Piet goes through 10 photographs – what he was trying to achieve and how they were technically shot and post-processed. These case studies are entertaining as well as an eye-opening look into the creative and technical process.
Interviews with four photographers are also included in the book. All are great reads and a way to see how other photographers work.
This is a great ebook with excellent photos and commentary. Photographers with a modest knowledge of off-camera flash techniques would do well to give it a read. Piet’s explanation and use of high speed sync is extremely valuable. A lot of people talk about HSS but don’t know how, why or when to use it.

Piet Van den Eynde will be touring Asia in November and December, teaching workshops on Adobe Lightroom and lighting sponsored in part by Phottix in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
